BIRTH
CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF RUPNATH BRAHMA
The year long celebration
of Birth Centenary of veteran socio-political
leader and a litterateur of repute, Rupnath Brahma,
began on June 15 last (the leader's birthday)
after an impressive programme of floral tributes
at the statue of the great leader, prayer song
and a public meeting held at the Pragati Bhawan,
Kokrajhar.
The
Celebration Committee headed by Dr. Ashish Kumar
Bhutani as president, Mr. S. Bagchi, working president,
Mr. Anil Phukan, as Vice President and Mr. H.C.
Boro as Secretary, has chalked out a two-day colourful
programme for a grand celebration of the 'Centenary'
sometime in the month of November next.
The
Committee has decided to invite the State Chief
Minister as chief guest in the open session.

BISHNU
RAVA DIVAS OBSERVED
Along with the rest of the
State, Bishnu Rava Divas, was also observed at
Kokrajhar in a befitting manner, on June 20 last.
Organised
jointly by District Cultural Centre and Janasanjog,
Kokrajhar, in association with Renowned Artistes
Memorial Observance Committee, Kokrajhar the colourful
daylong programme began with lighting of lamp
and floral tributes at the portrait of Bishnu
Rava, led by Mr. Carol Narzary, Addl. Deputy Commissioner,
Kokrajhar.
Large
number of school children participated in the
Bishnu Rava Geet, poem and on the spot art competitions
held on the day.
A
Seminar on the life-sketch of Kolaguru Bishnu
Prasad Rava held at Pragati Bhawan here as part
of observance of the day was inaugurated by Mr.
Benudhar Gayari, Principal of Rwisumwi Sangeet
Academi, Kokrajhar.
Mr.
Bani Kanta Dutta, Mr. S.K. Bagchi and Mr. Arup
Kr. Borgoyari participated as guest speakers in
the Seminar.
Dr.
Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar
graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed
the prizes to the winners of different competitions.

SPORTS
MINISTER INSPECTS SPORTS COMPLEX SITE
The Minister of Sports and
Youth Welfare, Relief and Rehabilitation Captain
Robin Bordoloi inspected the site of Tularam Senapati
Sports Complex at Kathalguri in Kokrajhar on July
1 last.
An
amount of Rs.9.3 crore has been sanctioned under
the scheme of Special Area Games (SAG) for the
sports complex of which Rs.1.5 crore has already
been released. The mega complex to be built on
nearly 80 bighas of land will have the facility
for cycling, hockey, 200 and 400 metres race,
swimming etc.
Assistant
Director of Sports Authority of India Mr. Subhas
Basumatary also accompanied the minister.

REHABILITATION
OF RIOT VICTIMS
Minister
of State (Ind) for Relief and Rehabilitation,
Sports and Youth Welfare, Captain Robin Bordoloi
visited several relief camps of riot affected
people in Kokrajhar district on July 2 last and
exchanged views with the inmates about their condition.
The minister assured the inmates of early rehabilitation
of all the affected people.
The
minister informed that 2000 families would be
rehabilitated within the next few weeks with necessary
RG and the process is on to do so to all of them
in a phased manner. There are 36,000 families
in total in various Relief Camps.
It
may be mentioned that all the camp inmates have
expressed their desire to return to their respective
original places. The Minister visited Srirampur,
Amguri, Alangi Bazar, Kachugaon, and Telipara
relief camps.

Hemendra Nath Brahma, MLA, Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani,
Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, Mr. Ashutosh Agnihotri,
SDO(C), Gossaigaon and Mr. Premsing Brahma, Ex-Chief
of Bodoland Autonomous Council also accompanied
Captain Bordoloi

GRANTS-IN-AID
DISTRIBUTED
The Kokrajhar branch of
Assam State Scheduled Caste Development Corporation,
is working expeditiously for the all round development
of the targeted people of the district.
The
development branch had recently handed over two
tractors to West Gardenpur
and 1 No. Gorokotora Field Management Committees
(FMC)s and also bi-cycle, fish box and spray machines
to the beneficiaries.
Mr.
Hemendra Nath Brahma, MLA and Dr. Ashish Kumar
Bhutani, Deputy Commissioner ceremonially distributed
the grants-in-aid in a function held under the
presidentship of Mr. Bimal Mandal, Chairman of
the development branch, at DC's office premises.
The function was attended among others by Mr.
Charan Narzary, Ex-MP.

REHABILITATION
OF RIOT AFECTED FAMILIES BEGINS
Rehabilitation
of riot hit families living in the different relief
camps in Kokrajhar district has begun from July
17 last.
The
Minister of Relief and Rehabilitation Capt Robin
Bordoloi formally launched the work by giving
rehabilitation grant of Rs.10,000/- and free rice
for 20 days to the families leaving the relief
camps on the day, in a function held at Alangi
Bazar.
On
the day a total of 2000 families of Gossaigaon
and Kokrajhar Sub-Division were rehabilitated
as first part of the first phase. The rest will
be done so in a phased manner.
Principal
Secretary of Relief and Rehabilitation, Assam,
Alok Perti, Deputy Commissioner, Ashish Kumar
Bhutani, General Secretary of All Bodo Students'
Union, Lwmshrao Dwimary,
President of Adivasi Seva Samity, Bodon Hasda
also attended the function at Alangi Bazar among
others.
INDEPENDENCE
DAY CELEBRATION
A
meeting was held on July 24 with the all heads
of departments, prominent citizens and Non-Governmental
Organisations of the district at the Conference
Hall of DC’s Office, Kokrajhar. In the meeting
a detailed programme for observing the Independence
Day was drawn up. The highlights of the
proposed programme are the ceremonial parade,
cultural programme, tree plantation by the VIP
at the Children’s Park, Kokrajhar, fruit distribution
to the inmates of the district jail and destitute
homes and a fancy football match between
DC’s Eleven and Veteran footballers Eleven.
The
meeting was chaired by Sri Carol Narzary, ADC
in the absence of the DC who was indisposed.
